PvP combat is in your Paladin’s future, even if you’ve avoided it so far. Wrath of the Lich King has brought a new emphasis to World of Warcraft’s World PvP. There’s now a real time PvP battle zone called Lake Wintergrasp. There, the emphasis is on real-time World PvP. In this new zone, players battle on the live server (no instancing) to win points that allow them to shop for all sorts of special items such as the new Heirloom items. These are items that any of the player’s characters in that account regardless of that character’s level can take advantage of.
With Lake Wintergrasp’s high popularity, and the increasing amount of PvP combat in other popular games, you’ll surely see more even more PvP in WoW in the future. Here’s what you need to know to handle your Paladin in this new world:

WoW Paladins are a schizophrenic bunch. On the one hand, they’re almost as good in hand-to-hand combat as Warriors. On the other hand, they can heal themselves and others like Priests do. This schizoid behavior carries over into World of Warcraft Paladin PvP combat, meaning that you really need to understand both sides of your character’s personality to succeed in player versus player combat.
Given their two-sided personality, it’s no surprise that a Paladin can play more than one role in player versus player. When soloing, a Paladin’s ability to heal themselves makes them frustrating and dangerous opponents. With a full load of mana, they can heal back from almost any level of damage once or twice. In effect, their healing abilities let them absorb almost triple the damage you might otherwise expect. This lets them absorb huge amounts of damage and still remain standing. In a group, Paladins often play more of a support role, fighting when necessary, while also providing bubbles, blessings, heals, and combat assistance throughout the battlefield in ways that no other class can do.
While playing a Paladin offers many benefits, the Paladin class has its downsides too. In the best of circumstances, a Paladin doesn’t have a lot of mana to work with, and once it is gone, a Paladin is much less powerful and much more vulnerable. Regardless of the amount of mana they have available, Paladins can have a terrible time drawing close enough to elusive classes like Hunters and Mages to even be able to hit them! Understanding how to best make use of their mana, and understanding how to fight against each class of oppontne is the secret to Paladin PvP success. As with other WoW classes, figuring out what you need to do by trial and error is bloody, frustrating, and time consuming.
This is where a Paladin PvP Guide comes in. A good guide gives you a blueprint for how your character will fight each other class. And that’s not all it will give you. It will let you learn just about everything there is to know about fighting and winning with a Paladin in each player versus player environment, whether dueling or, as part of a group, or in World PvP.
